Most people focus on the finish. The color, the texture, the final look. But here's the thing - none of that matters if the surface underneath isn't right. Venetian plaster is a high-end finish that demands a nearly perfect substrate. Any bumps, seams, or rough patches will telegraph straight through it.
That's exactly why we spend serious time on prep. This hallway is getting the full treatment before a single coat of Venetian plaster goes on. That means baseboard repairs first, then careful wall sanding from top to bottom. We're not rushing through it.
The sander you see here is hooked directly into a DeWalt dust extractor running the whole time. That's not just for cleanliness - though the floors stay noticeably cleaner this way - it's also about being able to actually see what we're working with as we go. Dust buildup obscures imperfections. A clean, well-lit surface lets us catch anything that needs more attention before we move on.
Drywall repair and surface prep is the kind of work that doesn't get a lot of attention, but it's what separates a finish that looks good in photos from one that holds up to real scrutiny. We take it seriously every time, regardless of what's going on top of it.
We'll be posting follow-along updates as this space comes together, so stay tuned to see where this one ends up.
