Most decks don't fail all at once. They fail slowly - a soft spot here, a cracked board there - until one day the whole thing feels unsafe. That's exactly the kind of situation we got called into on this one. The surface boards had run their course, and underneath, the framing needed attention before anything new went down.

We pulled the worn decking off completely to get a clear look at what we were working with. That's the only way to do this job right. Once the old boards were out, we could assess every joist, find the weak spots, and make sure the structure underneath was solid before moving forward. No guessing, no covering up problems.

One of the details that makes a real difference here is joist tape. We applied it across the top of the framing before the new boards went down. It's a simple step that protects the wood from moisture sitting on top of the joists - which is one of the main reasons decks deteriorate from the inside out. It's not flashy work, but it's the kind of thing that adds years to the life of a deck.

Deck repair done this way isn't just about making something look better. It's about making sure the structure is sound so the finished product actually holds up. When you skip the foundational steps, you end up right back where you started in a few years. We'd rather do it once and do it right.

There's a lot of deck work out there that's purely cosmetic. This wasn't that. Every board we replaced and every reinforcement we made had a reason behind it. That's what separates a repair that lasts from one that just delays the inevitable.
